5 Awesome Items You Should Own to Represent Your Home State

It’s no surprise to everyone that I’m from Texas. I probably mention it way too much, but I can’t help it! Texas is just so special to me and my parents are still there. I’m always eager to visit when I get the chance — and my husband and I already talk about retiring there. I recently purchased an awesome shirt from ModCloth that had Texas on it. I was so excited when I received it and it made me think how many Texas items I actually own. Although the ModCloth item is only for Texas, some of my other…

Kitty Crisis — Xena’s Emergency Vet Visit

Of course, Xena had to have an eye issue when my husband is gone! When I was finishing up my day in the office on Friday, I noticed that Xena was swaying back and forth and one eye was completely shut. She kept pawing at that eye and just looked extremely uncomfortable. I started to freak a little. I looked closer and tried to gently open her closed eye, but she started tearing up and wanted to keep it closed. My hearts starts to race because I know something is wrong. What makes matters worse, I’m all by myself and…

Some Changes ‘Round Here

So, in an effort to really fill-up any free time I have, I decided to make the big change from Blogger to WordPress! I’ve already been using WordPress in my last job and I also designed my professional website with it (in addition to using the platform for practically all my writing assignments). I just thought it would just streamline everything to have both my blog and professional portfolio website on WordPress and match too! Well, the digital journey began when I had to point my name servers, which I had through Enom on Google. It messed up my email…

Shenandoah National Park Awesomeness

Summer is in full swing!Last weekend, my husband and I kicked it off with a weekend trip to Shenandoah National Park. With July right around the corner, we’re realizing that our days are numbered till he TDYs to Arizona. He leaves at the very beginning of August, literally the first weekend…. This is our first summer together since we’ve been married — and we plan to make the most of it — although we’re pretty broke. The move and wedding put a strain on our financials and we want to spend some more time saving up before we do something big.…

Celebrating My Grandmother

The second part of this month has proved to be difficult to get through for me. My family lost an amazing woman, a person that helped raise me in my home with my parents since I was born, my grandmother. My grandma suffered from a bleeding ulcer and went through a quadruple bypass surgery several years ago. I was still in college at the time. After that, she has been battling with her age and illness. It’s been tough for me to witness her struggle with her health, especially from a distance. At that point, I’ve been living and working in…

My Birthday on the Potomac

I’m 28 years old!My birthday came and went so quickly. I was so happy to find out that my husband would be coming home from the field a day earlier than expected, but thoroughly disappointed to learn that he had to leave Sunday for his TDY.So, we really made the most of my actual birthday on Saturday. Started off the morning with a Filipino breakfast, then headed to Old Town Alexandria. My husband booked tickets for the Monuments tour with the Potomac River Boat Company — and we had dinner reservations at the Chart House afterwards. When we were at dinner,…

While the Husband is Away

Monday night was the first night I’ve spent alone since my husband got back from Korea. I feel pretty lucky that we’ve spent about three months together without any interruption. It still didn’t make it easy to sleep that night. It also didn’t help that I had a restless kitty rolling around on my bed.My husband would spend time playing with her every night — to drain her energy. She’s pretty crazy and I can’t seem to play with her as rigorously as my husband. It certainly showed when she was all over the place.Anyway, with my husband away, I’m…

The Nature Trails at Fort Belvoir — Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge

My husband and I love to be outside. One of the reasons we enjoyed Fort Drum so much is because of the great trails. I mentioned it in my post about Fort Drum here.Luckily, Fort Belvoir has countless trails at our disposal too! Last weekend, around our Easter celebrations, we decided to check out the trail that is right at the installation entrance. Going in and out of the post, we’ve noticed cars parked there and thought it would be worth our time. It’s only five minutes away from our house…besides, I really needed the walk after our Easter brunch…

The Marston’s Easter Celebration

It was a big Easter for the Marston family — because my husband got confirmed! He’s pretty pumped — and I’m proud of him for completing the journey. The church service was great and we are really enjoying being a part of the Fort Belvoir community! I loved seeing my husband in a suit and it was literally the first time since my wedding that I wore heels. I bought a fun new over the shoulder dress (it got cold, so I had to cover it with a cardigan).Anyway, the following day we had a special Easter Brunch at the Mount…

Meet Xena, Warrior Cat

Big announcement! I’ve mentioned it subtly before, but I’m making it official now…I’m a fur parent! My husband and I adopted a 10 month-old cat about two weeks ago! It was after a very disappointing rejection from another adoption organization that denied us because we were a military couple (yes, it was devastating). I did a little more research and we went and spoke to a few more adoption organizations. I had to explain our situation: yes, we’re an Army family, but we are ready for the lifetime commitment of being a pet parent. We were lucky because it wasn’t long after…
